4 podcasts for communications professionals

By Rachel Peck

If you’re a professional who relied on your daily commute as your podcast time, you’re not alone. Whether your commute was 10 minutes or two hours, that uninterrupted travel time is somewhat of a blessing and a curse. It’s the perfect time to catch up on an audiobook, podcast or calling family members. However, just because you’re no longer commuting doesn’t mean you should give up your educational podcast time. With the changing landscape of the communications world, now is the perfect time to stay educated on best practices – as well as gain insight into how others are adjusting. Here are four podcasts for communications professionals you should subscribe to:

PR Week
Hosts: Steve Barrett, Frank Washkuch
Hosted by PR Week editors and produced by Haymarket Media, this podcast is a must-listen to for any PR and marketing professional. With valuable insight into mainstream news and educational interviews with industry experts, this podcast offers information for businesses of all sizes. Recent interviews include Richard Edelman, discussing the most recent Edelman Trust Barometer and Natasha Priya Dyal, editor of the Infectious Disease Advisor – as well as Melissa Orozco, PR CEO and chief impact strategist from Yulu PR.

Women at Work
Hosts: Amy Berstein, Amy Gallo
While not exclusive to the communications field, this podcast should be in your library. Harvard Business Review editors, Amy Berstein and Amy Gallo interview experts on gender discrimination and offer insight into how to navigate the professional workforce. Episode topics include navigating conflict and working in a male-dominated industry, managing burnout and women in leadership roles. Whether you’re a seasoned pro, or new to the workforce, this podcast is a resource for any woman in the industry.

Spin Sucks
Host: Gina Dietrich
This podcast is a “one-stop shop for modern communications,” and takes a look at how PR, marketing, advertising and social media intersect. Consider a recent episode, titled “How to Market when the World is on Fire,” which talks about how brands can reach audiences during the COVID-19 pandemic. Each episode is roughly 10 – 15 minutes in length, making this a great option to listen to while making breakfast or taking a midday walk.

Agents of Change
Host: Rich Brooks
This podcast is hosted by a fellow Mainer, Rich Brooks and features interviews with global digital marketing experts. Topics include social media, SEO, networking, email marketing and more. For those looking to stay educated, during this time, listen to this recent podcast on marketing during a crisis.

From social media tips, to PR insights – these are only a few of the variety of podcasts available for professionals and we encourage you to download a few new ones. Make the most of the little extra time you might have and stay up-to-date with the ever changing communications landscape.
